A prime subdivision site was released for sale by the Queensland Government.
Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology Robert Schwarten announced the the site was available for purchase for subdivision into residential lots.
“The 6.0890-hectare Cairns site is situated at 87–117 Irene Street in Mooroobool and represents an exciting opportunity for the successful developer,” he said.
“Located only five kilometres from the Cairns central business district, the lot is a short drive to schools, shopping centres and medical and business facilities.”
The current zoning under the Cairns City Plan allows for residential development.
Mr Schwarten said strong demand for subdivided lots and population increases in Cairns would make the site a popular acquisition for developers.
“The land is elevated with attractive easterly views to the city and mountains, and has easy access to the Bruce Highway,” he said.
“As part of our commitment to first homebuyers, we will require 10 per cent of the lots to be earmarked for those buying their first home.
“Under the terms of the sale, a further 10 per cent of the lots are to be sold back to the Department of Housing to develop social housing for those in greatest need,” he said.
“This is part of the Queensland Government’s response to the need for more land to be released to address the housing shortage.”
Mr Schwarten said the property would be marketed locally and throughout Australia for sale by way of an expression of interest.
Colliers International is marketing the land on behalf of the department.
Interested developers can contact Jeff Dolan on 0412 433 377 or Pat George on 0412 721 448 from Colliers International to obtain the invitation document. Offers close on Wednesday 17 October 2007.
