Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Gladstone’s community health centre stage 2 refurbishment begins
The second stage of Gladstone’s $12.7 million community health redevelopment is underway, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said today.
Mr Robertson was in Gladstone today to inspect progress on the redevelopment.
He said the old community health building will be refurbished to accommodate community mental health services and Queensland Health’s Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATODS) Unit.
“The refurbishment follows the opening last week of the new community health building, which is anextension to the original building,” Mr Robertson said.
“It will modernise Gladstone’s mental health service and provide consulting rooms and intake area designed to meet the needs of mental health clients and staff.
“Community mental health will relocate from its current location in Gladstone’s CBD when the refurbishment is completed in November.”
Mr Robertson said community health services relocated to the new building last week.
“This new centre will greatly improve the availability of community health services in Gladstone,” he said.
“Community health services had outgrown the old building which was first opened in 1984.
“The new centre brings together all community health services at the one convenient location at Gladstone Hospital.
“It also provides additional space to ensure Queensland Health can help meet the growing demand for community health services in the area.
“And it will deliver a range of services including community allied health, Indigenous health, men’s health, child immunisation and Home and Community Care."
Mr Robertson said more than 200 people used Gladstone’s community health services every week.
“The new single-storey building includes a range of meeting and consulting rooms and group therapy rooms,” he said.
Mr Robertson said the redevelopment would help shape the Master Plan being developed for health services in Gladstone.
