Minister for Natural Resources and Water and Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland
The Honourable Craig Wallace
Chasewater Creek and Tumbridge Gully in the Esk Shire have been officially named by the Department of Natural Resources and Water.
The proposal to officially name the unique geographical features was initiated by the Esk Shire Council on behalf of local residents in April this year.
Minister for Natural Resources and Water Craig Wallace said the name “Chasewater Creek” originated from the Chasewater Homestead (1884), which still stands close to the creek.
”The name Tumbridge Gully originates from the local pioneering Tumbridge family who owned most of the property where the gully flows,” Mr Wallace said.
NRW administers the Place Names Act 1994, which controls the official naming of localities, suburbs and geographical features such as creeks and streams within local government areas.
