The Queensland Government has established a new energy efficient computer purchasing arrangement that will save the government up to 40 percent on desktop purchases.

Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology Robert Schwarten said that savings generated would be more than $20 million in a full year of use when based on the prices the Government was paying six months ago.

“The Queensland Government is combining eight existing state-wide Standing Offer Arrangements into a single arrangement for the provision of desktop personal computer, laptops, tablets and file servers,” Mr Schwarten said.

“The Government's new arrangement will be met by Data#3, Dell and Fujitsu, who will be able to supply government with a range of computer products from hardware manufacturers Acer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Lenovo and Toshiba.

“Support services will provided by 49 regionally based service agents.”

The selection of the new providers was based on:

·environmental benefits including energy consumption, recyclability and packaging

·commitment to small to medium enterprise involvement in support services

·capability, innovation and value adding

·provision of a full range of standard and optional services

·willingness to provide comprehensive reporting on key contract performance indicators.

Mr Schwarten said the agreement required regular reporting on the use of small to medium enterprises throughout the three-year term of the arrangement.

“This means that the Government can ensure that agencies’ service, maintenance and warranty requirements in the regions are being placed with local agents,” Mr Schwarten said.
