Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology
The Honourable Robert Schwarten

Minister for Housing Robert Schwarten announced today that the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) was making management of rental bonds through the Residential Tenancies easier through online services.

Mr Schwarten said the project was starting with agents but will eventually be expanded to self managing lessors as well as tenants.

“We want to provide real estate agents with the same kind of convenience as offered with online banking and e-Services achieves that,” said Mr Schwarten.

“Over 30% of Queenslanders rent, representing a substantial number of rental bonds that need to be managed and anything that can be done to streamline that process is a positive move,” Mr Schwarten said.

“Agents will be able to self-manage their bonds electronically in a convenient, secure and time saving manner,” he said

“Phase one of e-services focuses on agents but will soon be followed by other developments with the service eventually being extended to tenants and self-managing lessors (landlords),” concluded Mr Schwarten.

The first phase of e-Services will provide agents with the following facilities:

  • e-Administration: to change business information, such as bank account and contact details
  • e-Bond List: to consult a complete list of their rental bonds
  • e-Bond Enquiry: to enquire on a particular bond to view some bond details
  • e-Refund: to submit a claim for the whole (100%) of the refund to be paid to a tenant

The RTA is encouraging agents to choose e-Services as their preferred way of managing their bonds.
