Young volleyball stars from across the state will put their skills to the test at the School Sport Australia 15-years-and-under Volleyball Championships starting tomorrow at Morayfield, north of Brisbane.

Education and Training Minister Rod Welford congratulated the male and female secondary school students on their selection in the state team.

“These players have shown great skill and talent in the regional trials and I wish them every success when they represent Queensland at the national competition," Mr Welford said.

"There will be around 140 students competing at the six-day event, which will be held at the Morayfield Park Leisure Centre, from Sunday 26 August until Friday 31 August.

“State teams will be competing in a double round-robin competition with the top two teams qualifying for the Grand Final.

"Being selected in a state team is a significant achievement and each of the competitors should feel very proud.”

Six states and territories will be represented at the tournament – Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

Mr Welford said the event was a great opportunity for the young athletes to compete at the highest level while meeting and sharing experiences with their peers from across the state and the country.

“I’d also like to thank the dedicated teachers and school staff who have worked hard to make the championships a success,” he said.
