Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Employment and Industrial Relations Minister John Mickel has welcomed today’s decision by the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission to increase the state’s minimum wage by $24.60 per week.
“I am pleased the independent umpire accepted the argument of the Government that the state’s booming economy could support a modest and fair rise of this magnitude,” he said.
“The increase will affect up to 155,000 workers, with the in crease in award rates bringing the Queensland minimum wage to $528.40.
“There will be a rise of 4.1% in existing award allowances.”
Mr Mickel said the decision ensures the lowest paid state workers get to share in the benefits generated by increased prosperity and productivity.
The decision takes effect from 1 September 2007.
