Minister for Child Safety
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Far Northern child protection workers have been recognised for sticking with a job that confronts child abuse and neglect every day.
Child Safety Minister Desley Boyle today presented 10 staff from the Department of Child Safety’s Cairns, Edmonton, Atherton, Innisfail and Cape Torres offices with certificates for five and 10 years service (9 for five years service and one for 10 years).
“Working in child protection is not easy and our staff face some awful situations,” Ms Boyle said.
“The work they do is really important, helping children who have been abused or neglected, and they should be recognised and thanked for the difference they make.”
Ms Boyle said the staff being recognised today had been with the new Department of Child Safety since it was created in 2004 and were working in child protection for the Queensland Government before that.
“These staff have seen through many changes and improvements and it is terrific to see them still here, committed to helping children in the Far North,” she said.
Staff recognised today had racked up five or ten years at 31 May 2007.
They received framed certificates, achievement medallions and money for individual training and development.
Ms Boyle said the Far Northern community should recognise the award recipients and the contribution that all Child Safety staff make.
Recipients include:
5 years: Margaret Cini, Information and Administration Officer, Innisfail Child Safety Service Centre; Shirlene Boyd, Child Safety Support Officer, Cairns Alternative Care Unit; Jessica Mc Leish, Team Leader, Cape Torres Child Safety Service Centre; Jasmine Cory, Team Leader, Atherton (now Redcliffe) Child Safety Service Centre; Rozlyn Webley, A/Operations Manager, Cape Torres Child Safety Service Centre; Ada Tillett, Acting Team Leader, Cape Torres Child Safety Service Centre.
