Minister for Natural Resources and Water and Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland
The Honourable Craig Wallace
The area known as Tugun Heights will be moved into the suburb of Tugun under boundary changes to the Gold Coast suburbs of Tugun and Currumbin Waters.
Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace said the change was made at the request of local residents.
Mr Wallace said the opening of the Tugun Bypass in mid 2008 would cut the existing suburb of Currumbin Waters in two, isolating Tugun Heights from Currumbin Waters.
“I agree with residents that it makes sense to move Tugun Heights into the community of Tugun,” he said.
“We received 44 written comments from the public on this change – with 43 for and 1 against.
“The community has spoken and the change has been made.”
Queensland Place Names plan QPN1011 will show the proposed new boundaries.
The proposal to change suburb boundaries was advertised for public comment in February this year for two months.
The change will take affect from early next month.
