Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
Ambulance services in the South-West region have received a boost, with Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts and Attorney-General and Member for Toowoomba North, Kerry Shine, today opening a new station at Highfields.
Mr Roberts & Mr Shine took part in the official ceremony at the new station on Kratzke Road, which was built at a cost of $1.1 million.
The Minister also handed over two new ambulances: a Ford Transit van adapted for wheelchair patients which is valued at almost $50,000 and a Mercedes Sprinter single stretcher vehicle costing more than $120,000.
Mr Roberts said the new station would be a great boost for paramedics and local residents.
“This Government is committed to providing Queenslanders with world-class pre-hospital emergency care.”
“Our paramedics do an amazing job in the community, and it’s important we back them up with the appropriate resources.
“I know the Highfields crew will greatly benefit from this modern, purpose-built facility.”
Mr Shine praised paramedics for their dedication, skill and commitment.
“Paramedics are on the front-line caring for the safety and wellbeing of their fellow Queenslanders, and they deserve recognition for the great work they do every day,” Mr Shine said.
“I congratulate the Highfields QAS team on their hard work and professionalism, and it gives me great pleasure to see their new station come to fruition.”
Mr Roberts also took the opportunity to present a National Medal to State Emergency Service volunteer Chris Martial, who’s been involved with the SES in Townsville and Toowoomba for 19 years.
“Mr Martial’s contribution to the communities he’s served in around Queensland is invaluable, and I thank him for his dedication to the SES.”
