Seventeen finalists will take to the stage in Brisbane tomorrow (18 August) to compete in the 2007 Seniors Superstar grand final, which coincides with the start of Seniors Week celebrations.

Seniors Minister Warren Pitt said that after eight heats and numerous show-stopping performances, a winner and two runners-up would be decided at the grand final.

The Seniors Superstar grand final is sponsored by the Department of Communities and Brisbane City Council, and will take place at Brisbane City Hall from 2 pm to 4 pm. Entry is free and visitors are welcome

“Seniors Superstar provides a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the creativity and talent of older Queenslanders, while also encouraging active ageing and promoting positive images of older people,” Mr Pitt said.

“I congratulate all of this year’s participants and also wish the 17 finalists good luck.”

Mr Pitt said older Queenslanders were also getting ready to celebrate the “time of their life” as part of this year’s Seniors Week, which runs from 18-26 August.

“Seniors Week will be officially launched this Sunday at Brisbane’s South Bank Parklands with a free fun day and expo for seniors, family and friends,” he said.

“More than 300 events are being staged in Queensland during Seniors Week, to celebrate the achievements and contributions that older people make every day.

“Seniors Week is the perfect time to say thank you to the many older Queenslanders who have done so much for their families, their local communities and their state.

“And for those who miss out on tomorrow’s Seniors Superstar performances, the winner and two runners-up will perform again at South Bank as part of the launch festivities on Sunday.”
