The State Government will use a special exhibition promoting Queensland to attract new recruits and existing police from Victoria and New South Wales to join the Queensland Police Service, Police Minister Judy Spence said today.

“The Queensland Police Service recruiting section will use its new ‘We Don’t Do Boring’ campaign to attract more people from interstate to join up,” Ms Spence said.

“The current policing climate means all state and territory police services and the Australian Federal Police are aggressively recruiting people from other states.

“The Queensland Police Service is one of the best in the world and regularly attracts interest from interstate and overseas from people wanting to become a police officer.

“In fact since the ‘We Don’t Do Boring’ campaign started there’s been a 20% increase in applications with around 220 people wanting to join the police service each month.

“I am confident the Queensland Police Service will attract plenty of interest from potential recruits at the Queensland on Show, Work and Play Expo in Melbourne on 17-19 August and in Sydney on 5-7 October.”

Current members of the Victorian and New South Wales police will be granted free entry to the Queensland on Show, Work and Play Expo if they register online beforehand.

Ms Spence said the ‘We Don’t Do Boring’ campaign highlights the many exciting careers a police officer can pursue.

“Some of the careers Queensland police officers can enjoy include working as water police, working with animals in the dog and mounted police squads or police can pursue a scientific career as a forensics officer.”

A large number of police from other jurisdictions have already made the move to the Queensland Police Service.

“Out of the 701 recruits sworn in as Queensland police officers last year many of the 94 officers with previous policing experience came from interstate or overseas,” Ms Spence said.

“This shows that many people from other states are interested in working for the Queensland Police Service.”

“This campaign will help the Queensland Police Service recruit more people from interstate in what is a very competitive recruitment market,” Ms Spence said.
