Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Premier in Western Queensland
The Honourable Kerry Shine
The State Government has established a demonstration courtroom at the Royal Queensland Show in Brisbane to give visitors a greater undertstanding of how our justice system works.
Attorney-General and Justice Minister Kerry Shine said visitors to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General display in the Queensland Government's Frank Nicklin Pavilion could take the seats of jurors, witnesses, judges or magistrates.
"There are headphones which people can listen to to understand the role of jurors, witnesses, judges and magistrates in our courts," Mr Shine said.
"The majority of Queenslanders are law-abiding and they will never come before a court. However, many may be asked to be a juror. It is also very important that we all understand how our courts and our justice system operates."
Mr Shine said the Department of Justice and Attorney-General display also included information about Justices of the Peace and births, deaths and marriages.
"Already there have been a range of queries to Departmental officers on the stand, and I urge others visiting the Ekka this week to visit."
