Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Minister for State Development John Mickel will join V8 racing legend Shane Beikoff at the Queensland Government ethanol stand at the Ekka on Monday 13 August (12.30pm).
Mr Mickel said visitors to the RNA Showgrounds on Sunday 12 and Monday 13 August would get the chance to have a closer look at the #68 V8 Supercar owned by +e champion Shane Beikoff before it gets race-ready for the V8 Fujitsu Series at Oran Park.
“Just last month Shane and his son, Jonathan Beikoff, joined motoring enthusiasts at the Queensland Raceway, Willowbank, to witness the first ‘green’ V8 Supercar Championship Series. It involved all V8 Supercars racing on V-Power Racing, a five per cent ethanol-blended fuel,” Mr Mickel said.
“Shane is a great ambassador for our +e campaign which is designed to inform and educate motorists on the benefits of filling up with the renewable fuel.
“With +e fuels you have better performance, cleaner engines and lower emissions.
“And because ethanol is made from grains and sugar cane, +e fuels are also a plus for the agricultural economy of Queensland.
“There are now over 260 service stations selling ethanol blended fuel throughout Queensland and I encourage Queenslanders to stop by the +e stand to learn more about the benefits of this renewable fuel.”
Located on Industrial Street at the Ekka, the +e stand will be staffed by State Development representatives who will be on hand to answer questions about ethanol-blended fuel and help motorists find their local E10 service station.
Mr Mickel will also visit the popular BioBus – the traveling science exhibit that educates and inspires children around the State.
“The BioBus gives young Queenslanders a hands-on look at the diverse uses of biotechnology in health, the environment and agriculture through the 24 interactive and informative displays fitted on the bus.
“Examples of life-saving bio-engineered insulin and genetically modified cotton are just some biotech discoveries on display in this year’s BioBus.
“Already this year the BioBus has been visited by more than 2300 students at 14 schools across the State.”
M Mickel said the three science and mathematics teachers who delivered the BioBus program were keen to share their enthusiasm for science with the Ekka crowd.
The BioBus' appearance at the Ekka will be part of National Science Week's "Brainwaves at the Ekka" exhibition program. It’s anticipated more than 10 000 people will visit the BioBus at this year’s EKKA.
