Queensland seniors are getting their dancing shoes ready for this year’s Seniors Week Fun Day and Expo on Sunday 19 August at the South Bank Piazza.
The stage is set for an impressive line-up of entertainment and activities including rock ’n’ roll dancing and a fun day walk led by Queensland surf lifesavers.
Communities and Seniors Minister Warren Pitt said the event would showcase the strong connection between seniors and the community.
“The fun day and expo will celebrate the important contribution that seniors make to their communities and will proudly profile their great spirit,” he said.
“We want everybody to know that being a senior can be a really good time of life,” Mr Pitt said.
The fun day and expo will start at 8.30 am with a free breakfast, followed by the walk at 9.30 am.
“Seniors who don’t take part in the walk can relax and enjoy rock ’n’ roll dancing demonstrations and the Seniors Card Expo, with information on discount options available from various organisations,” he said.
“The fun day and expo will also include tai chi and line-dancing lessons, screen printing and a free lunch supported by the Lions Club of Queensland.
“With Buddy Holly, Dusty Springfield and Roy Orbison tribute shows live on stage, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to have the time of their life.”
More than 300 events – featuring everything from food, art and fashion through to computers, music and Harley Davidsons – will take place during this year’s Seniors Week, which runs from 18 to 26 August.
