The Honourable Warren Pitt

The way that Queensland Government services are delivered to people with a disability throughout the state are set to change with the launch today of Disability Service Plans for government departments.

Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt said the plans, individually developed for each government department, would make a difference to the lives of people with a disability in Queensland.

“The introduction of Disability Service Plans will result in important improvements to Queensland Government services that are provided to people with a disability,” Mr Pitt said.

“This includes mainstream services as well as specialist disability services.

“These plans aim to ensure that the operations of all government departments are consistent with human rights principles, service delivery principles and relevant government policies for people with a disability.

“One of the key priorities in my portfolio is to support people with a disability, their families and carers. Therefore, I am very optimistic about the improvements that these plans will make to the lives of Queenslanders with a disability.”

The plans prepared for each government department address common areas for improvement in the provision of disability services, including: policy and procedures; complaints; recruitment; employee attitudes; information and communication; and physical access to buildings.

Mr Pitt officially launched the whole-of-government Disability Service Plans initiative at a ceremony at Parliament House in Brisbane today.

“Many people have spent a considerable amount of time preparing and developing these plans, so it is an honour to see them officially launched,” he said.

The plans will be reviewed every three years in accordance with the Disability Services Act 2006.
