The Honourable Warren Pitt
New office for state’s peak community support organisation
One of the state’s largest community services organisations has settled into a new office in Brisbane, thanks to significant support from the Queensland Government.
Communities Minister Warren Pitt today officially opened the new premises of the Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) at Pidgeon Close in West End.
“For more than 50 years, QCOSS has worked to promote equality and social justice issues and I am pleased to continue the government’s support of such an important and worthwhile community organisation,” Mr Pitt said.
“As the peak body for more than 700 welfare and community sector organisations, QCOSS plays a vital role in providing a voice for thousands of Queenslanders in their time of need.”
Mr Pitt said he was pleased to commit $515,930 during the next three years to provide QCOSS with the larger, more modern premises, plus a further $90,000 in one-off funds to help with the fit-out of the new office space.
“QCOSS outgrew their previous premises at Kelvin Grove some time ago, so I am sure it is with much relief and excitement that the management and staff have moved into their new office space,” he said.
“I am pleased to support an organisation whose vision reflects that of my department’s — to build a fair, inclusive and sustainable Queensland.”
Last month, Mr Pitt announced an extra $200,000 funding package for QCOSS, taking the total amount of core funding provided by the Department of Communities to $436,620 a year.
“The Queensland Government is committed to working in partnership with the state’s non-government organisations to empower and enrich the lives of all Queenslanders,” he said.
“I look forward to maintaining the strong working relationship between the government and QCOSS.”
