‘Place of flowers’ now more visitor-friendly

Major infrastructure upgrades at Girraween National Park have been finished in time to give visitors better facilities to enjoy the park’s famous wild flowers this spring.

Environment Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said a $481,000 investment had greatly improved day visitor facilities at Girraween.

“Girraween National Park near Stanthorpe is an extremely popular camping and day trip destination with more than 80,000 visitors each year,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“This is due to the amazing diversity of plant and animal species in the park, as well as the distinctive granite landscape.

“The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has been upgrading facilities at the park in three stages over the past few years.

“The latest work has seen the installation of new electric barbecues, picnic shelters, and the construction of internal paths and landscaping.

“This follows the construction of a bitumen sealed car park and water efficient micro flush toilet facility.”

Ms Nelson-Carr said the improvements would greatly enhance visitors’ experience at Girraween.

“The new facilities form part of the State Government’s commitment to ensuring visitors to the Girraween National Park can better enjoy its amazing flora, fauna and granite landscape.”
