Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure
The Honourable Anna Bligh

NEW APPOINTMENT TO COMPETITION AUTHORITY

August 3, 2007

Former Transport and Mains Roads Minister Steve Bredhauer has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Queensland Competition Authority, Deputy Premier and Treasurer Anna Bligh said today.

Mr Bredhauer, 49, is a former member for the far north Queensland seat of Cook and since retiring from politics in 2004 has run a business consultancy.

“With our rapidly growing economy, the effectiveness of regulation is more important now than it has ever been, so the authority has a pivotal role to play in Queensland’s development,” Ms Bligh said.

“I’m confident that Mr Bredhauer’s experience, especially in rail and ports, will enhance the operation of the QCA,” she said.

The authority’s other four members – Brian Parmenter (chair), Ian White (deputy), Mark Christensen and Justin Malbon – were reappointed this week.
