Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Paul Lucas
LOWER SPEED ON EUMUNDI-KENILWORTH ROAD
A permanent 80 km/h speed limit will apply from tomorrow on a three kilometre section of Eumundi-Kenilworth Road at Belli Range.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Paul Lucas, said the new speed limit comes into force between Browns Creek Road and Archer Road.
“Main Roads is lowering the speed limit in response to an increasing number of trucks using that section of road.
“An 80 kilometre an hour limit is already in place during school drop off and pick up times but will now apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Mr Lucas said the Queensland Government is continuing to invest millions of dollars in safety upgrades on Eumundi-Kenilworth Road.
“We’re spending $10.4 million on a new bridge and approaches at Belli Creek Crossing No. 2, with work starting by the middle of next year.
“There’s another $5 million for widening between Archer Road and Belli Creek Crossing Number one, on top of the $290,000 for targeted safety projects under the latest Safer Roads Sooner program.
“$18 million has already been spent replacing bridges at Belli Creek Crossings No. 1 and 3, and Eerwah Creek, along with road widening.
“We’re listening to the concerns of the 2,000 motorists who use Eumundi-Kenilworth Road every day.
“It’s expected reducing the speed limit from 100 to 80 kilometres between Browns Creek Road and Archer Road will significantly improve safety on this winding section of road,” Mr Lucas said.
