Sunshine Coast homeless services get $3.8 million injection

The fight against homelessness on the Sunshine Coast has been further strengthened with the Queensland Government pledging $3.8 million for key services in the area.

Communities Minister Warren Pitt said five community organisations would share $1,299,950 a year over three years to tackle homelessness.

“This latest funding will allow the organisations to continue to operate important services for homeless people, as well as those at risk of homelessness, on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Pitt said.

“Local service providers are well placed to respond to the needs of homeless people in their own communities – that is why I am happy to continue to provide funding to these organisations to support their great work.

“This is also another example of how the Queensland Government is targeting funds to address homelessness across the state.”

The organisations that will receive funding, and their annual allocations, are:
• Lions Emergency Accommodation Centre – $379,023
• Caloundra Youth Focus – $333,179
• Erin House – $326,469
• Salvation Army Noosa Shire Accommodation Service – $159,892
• Cooloola Youth Service Young Women’s Network – $101,387.

Mr Pitt said the Queensland Government had developed a $235 million Responding to Homelessness strategy.

“The growing need for increased crisis accommodation and affordable housing options, remain a significant priority for the Queensland Government,” he said.

”We have also established Homeless Persons Information Queensland, a free-call service providing information about housing, as well as advice, support and practical assistance.”

Homeless Person's Information Queensland is available on toll-free 1800 47 47 53.
