New-look website offers support for families of homicide victims

The Queensland Homicide Victims’ Support Group has launched its new-look website, which now offers even more information and advice for those who have lost a loved one to homicide.

Communities Minister Warren Pitt said that the upgraded website – www.qhvsg.org.au – provided much-needed support and understanding for the families of homicide victims.

“We have been funding this initiative for almost a decade and have heard plenty of positive comments about the support provided,” Mr Pitt said.

“The work that this organisation does for those who have lost someone is admirable and very important and its website upgrade will encourage more involvement and understanding from members of the community.”

Queensland Homicide Victims’ Support Group chief executive officer Jonty Bush said the upgraded website would create more opportunity for those affected by the loss of a loved one to reach out to others who had suffered the same situation.

“It’s not easy to lose a loved one and it’s sometimes even harder to talk about it with people who have not experienced such a loss – that’s where our organisation and website can help,” she said.

“Through the website, we are trying to bring people, particularly those in regional areas, back into actively participating in their community.”

Additions to the website includes more information for victims of homicide, students, public officials and members of the wider community, and accurate and topical information, tips and advice.
