$25,000 grant drives Emerald children’s service
The future of a popular service for central Queensland children and families is on track thanks to $25,000 in Queensland Government funding.
Communities Minister Warren Pitt said the Remote Area Families Service Emerald, run by the Uniting Church Frontier Service, would now continue to provide early childhood services to children living in rural central Queensland.
“This funding will be used to replace the four-wheel-drive vehicle that enables the organisation to provide services to some of the most remote and isolated parts of the state including Marlborough, Alpha, Injune, Charters Towers and Collinsville,” Mr Pitt said.
“These services include playgroups, home visits, resource kits and family support through information and referrals for isolated families.
“Currently 320 families in these rural and remote areas benefit from the work of the Remote Area Families Service Emerald, and a new vehicle will ensure help and support continues to be available to these families.
“I am pleased that we can continue to support these families, particularly as many are already suffering hardship from the drought.”
The Department of Communities also provides $149,866 a year to the Remote Area Families Service Emerald.
