Minister’s awards for excellence in workforce development close soon

Time is running out for community and disability organisations throughout the state to nominate for the 2007 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Workforce Development, which recognise best practice in building staff skills and strengthening client services.

Communities and Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt said the awards were open to all non-government organisations across Queensland that provided services funded by the Department of Communities or Disability Services Queensland.

“The awards are an opportunity to showcase the excellent work many non-government organisations are doing in the field of organisational development and workforce capacity building,” Mr Pitt said.

“Nominating for an award is an ideal way to share successful strategies with colleagues and to promote the benefits of building a strong, skilled workforce.”

The Workforce Development Awards program has five categories:
• Effective leadership by a board of management
• Encouraging a learning culture
• Culturally inclusive practices
• Collaborative achievement
• Sector recognition.

Each category includes four nomination divisions: open; regional; Indigenous; and small organisations

The Workforce Development Awards program is an initiative of the Queensland Government’s Strengthening Non-Government Organisations strategy. For nomination materials or further information, visit www.communities.qld.gov.au or phone 3234 0190.

Eligible organisations are encouraged to lodge nominations under various categories and divisions before nominations close on Friday 3 August 2007.
