The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
QUEENSLAND COMMUNITY GRANTS CLOSING SOON
Queensland communities are encouraged to get in quickly and apply for their share in the $730,000 Queensland Government funding with the 2007/08 Multicultural Assistance Program (MAP) before applications close on Tuesday 31 July.
Acting Multiculturalism Minister Rod Welford urged Queenslanders to take advantage of this opportunity by submitting an application to Multicultural Affairs Queensland.
“The MAP funds projects, festivals and special events that promote an understanding of multiculturalism, reduce prejudice and foster community participation in Queensland,” Mr Welford said.
“The program helps local communities to actively promote and celebrate multiculturalism at a local level.
“As Queensland grows in cultural diversity it is important we work together to achieve mutual respect and understanding of different cultures and religions.”
In 2007, the MAP has funded many multicultural projects, festivals and special events such as FestItalia, Diversity on Display art exhibition and Paniyiri Greek Festival.
Mr Welford said events and programs such as these were a great way to bring the community together and increase understanding through cultural experience and community participation.
“Grants of up to $30,000 are available to not-for-profit community organisations on a one-off basis to carry out innovative multicultural community projects with the potential to develop community relations.”
The MAP is part of the Queensland Government’s Multicultural Queensland – making a world of difference policy that supports diversity and harmony within the Smart State.
