Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure
The Honourable Anna Bligh
WORK TO FINALISE WESTERN TOWNSHIPS WATER ROUTES
Friday 27 2007
The Department of Infrastructure will this week issue Section 136 Notices to access 67 properties in the Blackbutt/Esk region to finalise the pipeline routes for town water supply for Blackbutt, Yarraman, Benarkin and Toogoolawah.
Deputy Premier and the Minister for Infrastructure Anna Bligh said finalisation of these routes will ensure water supply for these western townships.
Western Corridor Recycled Water Pty Ltd, in cooperation with local councils, is managing the design and construction of the 27 km pipeline from Esk to Toogoolawah and the 22 km pipeline from Tarong to Benarkin and Blackbutt.
These new pipelines, scheduled to be completed by June 2008, are required as the townships currently source water from Wivenhoe to Tarong pipeline.
With the scheduled completion of the Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant in 2008 the Wivenhoe to Tarong pipeline will supply recycled water to Tarong Power Station.
It is important that the townships have access to same water supply sources they had prior to the introduction of recycled water into dams.
Ms Bligh today said the Section 136 Notices would allow workers to enter land to undertake the alignment work so this important water pipeline can provide water to these western townships.
“These notices are signed by the Deputy Coordinator-General under Section 136 of the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 for construction workplace and project investigations,” she said.
“Section 136 Notices are required for landowners and occupiers who could be impacted by the works for the proposed Town Water Supply pipelines in order to formalise land access for geotechnical, environmental and cultural heritage investigations.”
Ms Bligh said the notice also provided protection to the landowners by providing them with a right to compensation for any damage to land done as a result of the investigations.
