Attorney-General Kerry Shine has congratulated Toowoomba-based solicitor Megan Mahon on taking up her appointment as the new president of the Queensland Law Society today.

Mr Shine said Ms Mahon was a very experienced and widely respected practitioner.

“As a fellow Toowoomba resident, I have had the opportunity to work with Megan Mahon and I look forward to working with her as the new president of the Queensland Law Society,” Mr Shine said.

In 1998, Ms Mahon joined Toowoomba-based firm Murdoch Lawyers where she was made a partner in 2003.

In February this year, Ms Mahon and Downs and South-West Law Association president Kym Briese established the firm, Briese Mahon Lawyers.

“Megan Mahon has made a substantial contribution to the law and to the Toowoomba region, especially through education.”

Mr Shine said the Queensland Law Society (QLS) represented some 7000 practitioners from across the State.

“As Attorney-General, I closely consult the Law Society on the full range of issues in my portfolio and I carefully consider its representations to me on behalf of its members,” Mr Shine said.

Outgoing QLS president Joe Pinder has been appointed as a Magistrate based in Cairns. Magistrate Pinder’s appointment will take effect on 13 August.
