PILTON MEMORIAL HALL TO GET FACELIFT

Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten today announced the Queensland Government will provide a $7,953 grant towards the repair and repaint of the Pilton Soldiers’ Memorial Hall.

Mr Schwarten said the grant, from the Department of Public Works’ Community Memorials Restoration Program, would help the Pilton Hall Committee replace the roof guttering and leaky windows as well as repaint the exterior.

“The Queensland Government is happy to partner with the hall committee to give the historic Pilton Hill a facelift,” Mr Schwarten said.

“Two years ago the Community Memorials Program gave the hall committee $6800 for a disabled ramp, supporting the community’s need for better access.

“We’re happy to once again partner with the Pilton Hall Committee. This new funding will help keep this historic hall dry, secure and maintenance-free for many years to come.”

Around Queensland, 46 communities will share in more than $576,000 in subsidy funds from the Community Memorial Restoration Program in the 2007-2008 round of grants.

Since 2004, the Program has funded 144 projects across the State providing a total of $1.22 million in dollar-for-dollar subsidies to councils and community organisations to help restore local monuments and other icons.
