Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology
The Honourable Robert Schwarten
GRANT GETS LOCO RESTORATION ON TRACK
The Queensland Government’s Community Memorials Restoration Program will provide $15,000 to repair and repaint the historic 1925 “Eudlo” steam locomotive, Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten announced today.
Mr Schwarten says the dollar-for-dollar grant to the Nambour and District Historical Museum Association will return the famous loco to its place in the heart of the Nambour community.
“The Government is more than happy to partner with the museum association and support the dedicated team of locals restoring the locomotive,” Mr Schwarten said.
“The Association is to be congratulated for the hard work they have already done to get a purpose built shed ready for the old engine and I wish them every success with the project.”
Around Queensland, 46 communities will share in more than $576,000 in subsidy funds from the Community Memorial Restoration Program in the 2007-2008 round of grants.
Since 2004, the Program has funded 144 projects across the State providing a total of $1.22 million in dollar-for-dollar subsidies to councils and community organisations to help restore local monuments and other icons.
