Twenty councils propose referendums: Fraser

Twenty councils across Queensland have indicated they intend to propose staging referendums on local government reform.

Local Government Minister Andrew Fraser said of the 93 councils that had today responded to a departmental request on whether they intended staging referendums, 73 said they would not.

Mr Fraser said he would now consider his options on the referendum issue.

“But scattered and costly referendums would have no bearing on the sensible and timely reform of our ageing local government system in Queensland,” he said.

A list of the 20 councils is below.
