Minister praises Logan achievers

Logan district people with a disability will be honoured tonight at the 20th annual Logan City Achievement Awards for People with Disabilities

Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt was among the many invited dignitaries at the awards ceremony and spoke of the outstanding achievements of people with a disability.

“The past week has been Disability Action Week across Queensland, when we focus on what people with a disability can do, rather than what they cannot,” Mr Pitt said.

“The theme of Disability Action Week – Seeing beyond the disability – is all about that focus, so it is pleasing to see the Logan region paying so much attention to ability.

“The Logan achievement awards are an outstanding example of what Disability Services Queensland strives for in welcoming and inclusive communities.

“I congratulate Logan City Council and all those involved with the awards, as well as all award recipients, for the outstanding contribution they are all making to an inclusive Logan community.”

The Logan City Achievement Awards for People with Disabilities is now in its 20th year and receives strong support from both individuals and local businesses.

“These awards are the result of the efforts of Logan resident Maureen Collins, who saw a need to recognise the skills and achievement of people with a disability and enlisted support from Logan City Council and former mayor Fred Huntress,” Mr Pitt said.

“I applaud the vision of people such as Maureen who are doing their utmost to improve the quality of life for people with a disability.”
