Queensland Government Agent Program marks 15 years of service to people in country areas

One of the Queensland Government's most successful initiatives celebrates 15 years of service this month.

The Queensland Government Agent Program (QGAP), the first approach of its kind anywhere in Australia, was introduced as a pilot project in 1992 through 13 franchised outlets and now operates at 68 sites across the state.

Minister for Communities Warren Pitt said QGAP played a crucial role in government plans to improve service delivery in rural and isolated communities, such as the Blueprint for the Bush initiative.

"QGAP already delivers more than 400 government and other services to Queenslanders living in isolated and small communities," Mr Pitt said.

"As part of the Blueprint for the Bush initiative, we will be looking closely at making the most of QGAP and any opportunities to enhance service delivery.

“QGAP forms part of Smart Service Queensland, which comes under the Department of Communities, and provides fast and easy access to a broad range of Queensland Government information and services,” he said.

QGAP offices are managed by Smart Service Queensland, staffed by Queensland and local government officers and commercial organisations, and provide departmental information and services to rural and remote Queenslanders.
