Minister for Child Safety
The Honourable Desley Boyle

Call for nominations for child protection awards

Queenslanders doing exceptional work to protect children from abuse and neglect are being encouraged to nominate for the annual Child Protection Awards.

Child Safety Minister Desley Boyle is calling for nominations for the awards, which will be presented during Child Protection Week (September 2-8).

“Right across Queensland there are very many people working to keep Queensland children safe,” Ms Boyle said.

“There are people who work with parents to show them how to care for their children, nurses and teachers who see children who have been hurt and report it and Child Safety Officers who investigate and make sure children are in a safe place.

“There are counsellors who help children to heal, projects that raise community awareness and help prevent child abuse and people working on research and policy so we can be sure we’re all doing the best job we can.

“These awards are to recognise the very best - those individuals, teams or entire organisations that are doing really excellent work.”

Award winners will be judged on how they have addressed at least two of the following criteria: what their work has achieved; its innovation; its durability or long-term effects; how it improved wider understanding of child protection; collaboration with other organisations; and how it involved the community.

Awards are presented to individuals or groups in the following categories: professional (non-government); volunteer; public sector; regional program; education initiative; youth participation; and research initiative.

More information on the awards and how to nominate is available at: www.childsafety.qld.gov.au/events/cpweek/awards.html

Nominations close on Monday, July 23. Send nominations to Ms Caitlin King,
Project Officer, Queensland Child Protection Week Committee, PO Box 6295
Fairfield Gardens Q 4103 or ncacking@bigpond.net.au.
