TIGER SHOULD LOOK AT TOWNSVILLE NEXT, SAYS CRAIG WALLACE
The eye of the tiger should turn to Townsville next after Australia’s newest airline, Tiger Airways, today announced it will fly to Mackay, Rockhampton and the Gold Coast from November.
Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland Craig Wallace said the Singapore-based Tiger should consider flying to Townsville next.
“Thuringowa/Townsville is one of the fastest growing areas of Queensland and Australia,” Mr Wallace said.
“The eye on the Tiger should be on us next – it is the logical step for this new airline,” he said.
“Tiger will find a lot of keen supporters in North Queensland if it puts Townsville on its flight schedule.
“Townsville also would benefit from a competitive new airline industry player.”
Mr Wallace said Tiger should consider a Townsville-Darwin-Singapore service that would bring international fights through Townsville.
Tourism Minister Margaret Keech announced today that Tiger Airways will fly from Melbourne to three Queensland destinations in its start up phase.
The Gold Coast will receive three direct flights daily from Melbourne, with one-way fares starting from $49.95.
Mackay and Rockhampton will receive four non-stop weekly return services from Melbourne, with prices from $59.95 one way.
Mr Wallace said he would speak with Mrs Keech to see what Townsville could do to get regular Tiger flights.
