The Honourable Margaret Keech
Swag of Queensland medals at Brisbane Fine Wine Festival
The Queensland wine industry has confirmed its fast-developing reputation for quality, with a swag of medals at the 2007 Brisbane Fine Wine Festival.
Wine Industry Development Minister Margaret Keech said Queensland wineries, competing against wineries from around Australia, were awarded four gold, five silver and 23 bronze medals.
“The Brisbane Fine Wine Festival has been yet another successful event for the Queensland wine industry and our wine producers have again shown that they can compete with wineries on a national level,” Mrs Keech said.
“In addition to these medals, the Premier of Queensland trophy for the Highest Pointed Queensland Wine was awarded to Robert Channon Wines from the Stanthorpe region, for their 2005 Robert Channon Reserve Chardonnay.
“The same wine also took out the Department of Tourism, Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development’s trophy for the Highest Pointed Queensland Wine.”
Mrs Keech said Robert Channon and his winemaker, Mark Ravenscroft, should be very proud of their achievements.
“To win a gold medal and two trophies at a national show is certainly a tremendous achievement,” she said.
“The quality and consistency of our wines has improved, and that’s why we’re seeing so many state, interstate and international awards going to Queensland wineries.
“Queensland winemakers have demonstrated their prowess on the state, national and international stage winning a total of over 470 medals in the past 12 months.”
