More money for Eumundi-Kenilworth Road
Maintenance on the Eumundi- Kenilworth Road is being stepped up ahead of major upgrade works.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Paul Lucas said an additional $1.5 million had been allocated for extra maintenance work on the Eumundi-Kenilworth Road.
“The expanded works program will get underway in September with Main Roads already prioritising sections of the road in need of resurfacing and shoulder widening.
“I’ve meet with the Member for Nicklin, Peter Wellington, on a number of occasions to discuss the condition of Eumundi-Kenilworth Road.
“He’s lobbied Main Roads for works to be brought forward and we’ve listened, we’re working with him to improve safety on the Eumundi-Kenilworth Road.
“Central to his concerns is an increase in trucks using the road to transport gravel from the quarry at Moy Pocket.
”The trucks have accelerated the wear and tear on the Eumundi-Kenilworth Road but Main Roads is taking steps to address it,” Mr Lucas said .
Member for Nicklin, Peter Wellington said he’s happy with the strategy Main Roads has developed to maintain the road surface and boost safety.
“These safety improvements are a good first step ahead of planning and design work being completed on major upgrades of the Eumundi-Kenilworth Road.
“It’s a win for the motorists of the Sunshine Coast who rely on this route," Mr Wellington said.
Mr Lucas said Main Roads had been progressively upgrading Eumundi-Kenilworth Road with $18 million spent replacing bridges at Belli Creek Crossing No.1 and 3 and Eerwah Creek, as well as road widening.
“We’re continuing to invest in this important link road, with $15.4 million to be spent on a new bridge and approaches at Belli Creek Crossing No. 2 in 2008-09.
“More road widening and resurfacing work between Archer Road and Belli Creek Crossing No. 1 is also planned.
“That’s in addition to the $290,000 in high benefit safety works to start early next year, which is funded by red light and speed camera fines under the Safer Roads Sooner program,” Mr Lucas said.
