Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Minister lends support to Gold Coast Hospital staff
Health Minister Stephen Robertson visited Gold Coast Hospital today to give support and reassurance to staff over events involving the hospital this week.
Queensland Health Director-General Uschi Schreiber, AMAQ president Dr Ross Cartmill and a local Queensland Nurses Union representative also met with staff.
The minister also met with international medical graduates employed at the hospital.
Mr Robertson said the international media spotlight on the hospital this week had placed enormous strain and pressure on staff.
“Maintaining a high level of service and patient care at a time of intense media and public scrutiny is not easy but I can assure you the Queensland Government and the people of Queensland are right behind you,” he said.
“We give all staff our full support and that naturally includes our overseas-trained staff who are a vital part of the health team.
“I want to gauge the depth of feeling among staff and give them the opportunity to bring their concerns to my attention, face-to-face."
Mr Robertson said Queensland Health would continue to ensure all appropriate information was provided to staff given restrictions of the Federal Police investigation.
