Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Premier in Western Queensland
The Honourable Kerry Shine
Princess’ name popular in Queensland
Isabella - the name of Denmark’s newly christened princess – is among one of the most popular names for baby girls in Queensland, Attorney-General Kerry Shine said today.
Mr Shine said Isabella had been the 9th most popular girl’s name in Queensland in 2005 and 2006.
“Last year, there were 201 newborns named Isabella according to the Queensland Government’s Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages. In 2005, 197 babies were named Isabella,” Mr Shine said.
“I suspect Isabella may become an even more popular choice for new Queensland mums and dads.”
Princess Isabella is the baby daughter, and second child, of Crown Princess May and Prince Fredrik of Denmark. Her full name is Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe.
The most popular girl’s name in Queensland has been Ella for the last three years (2006, 2005 and 2004). Jack has been the most popular boy’s name in Queensland for the last four years.
