FUNDING FOR URGENT HOUSING IN MARYBOROUGH

Housing Minister Robert Schwarten today announced more than $150,000 in funding for a Maryborough housing group to help provide accommodation to people with an urgent housing need.

Mr Schwarten said the funding for Housing Action Group Maryborough District Inc was provided under the Community Rent Scheme.

“The Community Rent Scheme is a state government-funded program operated by community-based housing groups,” Mr Schwarten said.

“It helps local groups lease and manage private market properties to provide subsidised housing to low-income families or individuals in urgent need of accommodation.

“Housing Action Group Maryborough District manages a minimum of 19 properties to help people already on the public housing waiting list but who need to find housing urgently and cannot secure affordable accommodation in the private market.”

Mr Schwarten said the local funds were part of an $13 million Community Rent Scheme budget which supported 23 organisations in 27 communities around the state.

“Altogether, these groups manage more than 1,700 properties and assist more than 3,000 households a year,” he said.

“These grants will deliver real and direct help to people facing housing crisis.”
