The Honourable Warren Pitt

Improved support services now open at Multicap Eight Mile Plains

People with multiple disabilities and complex support needs will now enjoy much-improved support as a result of the reopening of Multicap’s Ford House.

Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt officially reopened the building during a ceremony at Multicap’s facility at Eight Mile Plains today.

“The extensively refurbished facility can now provide short-term residential accommodation and support services for up to six people at a time,” Mr Pitt said.

“Ford House is an important part of the STEPS Program run by Multicap, and provides emergency and short-term residential accommodation for people with multiple disabilities and complex support needs.

“I am impressed with the way Multicap really supports people with multiple disabilities, and I am equally impressed with the services and supports now available through the revamped Ford House.

Ford House was built in 1974 and named after Multicap’s Reverend SB Ford. It has recently undergone extensive refurbishment, thanks to funding of more than $88,000 from Disability Services Queensland in 2005–06, to bring it into line with the other services offered by Multicap.

This year, Disability Services Queensland also provided a one-off allocation of more $440,000, together with recurrent funding of more than $612,000, to Multicap.

Ford House now features five individual bedrooms, two flats with independent kitchens and bathrooms, and a staff bedroom with ensuite. It also offers residents a large and comfortable dining and lounge area, together with an outdoor patio area and courtyard garden area.

Mr Pitt said Multicap provided a diverse range of services for some 300 clients, including day and respite services, supported accommodation and employment services, as well as social support.

“For the past 35 years, Multicap has been offering a quality service to Queenslanders with multiple disabilities and complex support needs. I congratulate Multicap on its past success and look forward to continuing to work in close partnership with it in the future,” he said.
