QUEENSLAND'S 52ND POLICE BEAT OPENED IN EDEN'S LANDING

Police Minister Judy Spence and Commissioner Bob Atkinson have joined Member for Waterford, Evan Moorhead, to open Queensland’s 52nd neighbourhood police beat in Eden’s Landing today.

Ms Spence said the refurbished facility, developed at a cost of more than $520,000, was part of the State Government’s commitment to creating safer communities.

“The opening of this neighbourhood police beat is great news for the Eden’s Landing community, as it will increase their sense of safety and strengthen local partnerships with police,” Ms Spence said.

“Having officers living and working in amongst the community allows local police to build a rapport and establish a relationship of trust with the people they serve, so they can work together to fight crime.

“Residents and businesses in the area now have improved access to their local police – for reporting incidents, discussing issues of concern or for canvassing new ways to prevent crime in this community.

Ms Spence said the new Eden’s Landing police beat is the fifth to be built on the Gold Coast.

“Police Beats are already operational in Jacob’s Well, Biggera Waters and Arundel, with two more in Norfolk Village and Pacific Pines currently being refurbished,” Ms Spence said.

“The beats are part of a three-year, $10 million election commitment by the Beattie Government to build 25 new beats across the State.

“This is just one way the Government is ensuring policing in the South East Corner continues to reflect population growth and changing community needs.”

Member for Waterford Evan Moorhead welcomed the delivery of a vital service to his local community.

“It is fantastic to see the Government’s commitment to funding expansive capital works projects in Queensland is delivering such excellent results in Eden’s Landing,” Mr Moorhead said.

“This is a beat with a strong focus on community and cross-service partnerships and I’m confident the community will be pleased to work with the officers at the beat, to keep this community safe.”

Commissioner Atkinson said the two officers stationed at the beat are well aware of local community issues.

“The beat officers will be proactively targeting both personal safety and property offences within the Eden’s Landing area as well as continuing their focus on traffic enforcement including reduction of traffic incidents, detection of drink drivers and incident of hooning and other traffic offences,” Commissioner Atkinson said.
