Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
PREMIER ANNOUNCES INTERIM ARRANGEMENTS FOR DIRECTOR-GENERAL
Premier Peter Beattie announced today that Mal Grierson had been appointed Acting Director-General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Mr Grierson will fill the position following the departure of Ross Rolfe at the end of the week and until the selection process for a permanent replacement is completed.
He is currently Director-General of the Department of Public Works and has years of experience in the Queensland public sector.
“Mal is one of the most experienced public servants in Queensland and I know he will capably fulfil this role,” Mr Beattie said.
“He has served as Director-General of Public Works for the past nine years and has had oversight of many of our major infrastructure projects including the Roma Street Parklands, the Suncorp Stadium redevelopment, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Millennium Arts project.
“Among his many commitments, Mal serves on a range of inter-departmental CEO committees and is the Chairperson of the State Purchasing Advisory Council, the Government Office Accommodation Committee, and Chair of the Australian Procurement and Construction Council.
“Ross leaves at the end of the week and I want a seamless transition.
“Mal is someone who will get on with job with maximum efficiency and a minimum of fuss.”
Mr Beattie said there had been a strong response to the advertisement for the position of Director-General.
“We are wading through the applications now and expect to be in a position to announce a permanent appointment by the end of the month,” he said.
“It is a challenging position and we want to make sure we get the right person to help us continue with the reforms that will deliver on our vision of the Smart State.”
