The Honourable Warren Pitt
One story about disability can make a difference
People with a disability and their families, friends and carers have been invited to share their stories on the experience of disability.
Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt, announced today that Disability Services Queensland’s popular Share Your Story calendar would again be published in 2008.
“The calendar gives people with a disability the chance to make a difference in their community by helping to build awareness and improve understanding of disability issues,” Mr Pitt said.
“Just one story can help broaden our understanding of the challenges faced by people with a disability or their achievements in overcoming those challenges.”
Mr Pitt said that all stories were welcome, from the ordinary through to the extraordinary.
“We are looking for stories from across the community, from people with a disability, their friends, family, carers and service providers. We want people with a disability to have the same opportunities to participate in and benefit from community life as any other Queenslander.”
Share Your Story submissions should be 250 words or less and can be submitted by post or email. The categories are:
• Just like me
• Overcoming a challenge
• Work and education
• Making communities a better place for everyone
• Focus on ability
• Working with people with a disability
• Breaking down the barriers
• Family and friends
• My story / Our story.
Thirteen submissions will be selected to feature in the Disability Services Queensland Share Your Story 2008 calendar. Submissions close on Friday 24 August 2007.
