I am appalled by Opposition Leader Jeff Seeney's attack on former NSW Chief Justice Sir Laurence Street.

As Queensland's first law officer, I commissioned Sir Laurence to provide an independent opinion on the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions's file on the death in custody of Mulrunji.

I hope Mr Seeney's attack on Sir Laurence was due to ignorance.

Mr Seeney's attack was unfounded and despicable. He has brought shame to all Queenslanders.

Sir Laurence is one of Australia's finest jurists and his legal expertise is highly regarded internationally.

Sir Laurence was recently engaged by Federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock to mediate a dispute over Aboriginal remains held by a London museum.
