GET CREATIVE THESE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AT THE CULTURAL CENTRE
The Cultural Centre at South Bank is offering a host of free activities during the winter school holidays, from Saturday 23 June to Monday 9 July.
Arts Minister Rod Welford said the re-developed Cultural Centre would be the place to go these holidays for educational and entertaining children’s activities.
“There’s something for everyone, from virtual surfing, to storyteller performances and miniature aeroplane making,” Mr Welford said.
“Our Government has invested $291 million to re-develop the precinct and there have been more than 1.75 million visits since the works were completed last December.
“There’s always an exciting range of activities and exhibitions at the Cultural Centre, and I’m sure it will be buzzing again during the upcoming school holidays.”
The State Library’s ‘Discover’ school holiday program includes free performances by LATT Children’s Theatre, a day camp for young writers, dream room workshops for aspiring designers, scavenger hunts and a creative space for under-eight year olds.
At the Gallery of Modern Art children will have the opportunity to work alongside professional artists, Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan, making miniature aeroplane models.
History will come to life at the Queensland Art Gallery, with interactive children’s tours of the historical Australian collection.
Visitors to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre will have the opportunity to send messages of hope to tsunami survivors in Sri Lanka, as part of the After the Wave exhibition.
At the Queensland Museum South Bank visitors can experience the new interactive exhibition Between the Flags: 100 Years of Surf Lifesaving, which documents the history of surf lifesaving in Australia. Children can also explore the relationships between creatures big and small, from the prehistoric to the present, at the Museum Zoo.
