MUSICALLY OUTSTANDING STUDENTS PERFORM AT GALA CONCERT

Seventy-seven of Queensland’s most talented state school music students will take to the stage at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) later this month.

Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts, Rod Welford, said the budding musicians will perform in the MOST 2007 Gala Concert, on Thursday 28 June.

“MOST, which stands for Musically Outstanding Students, is a 12-day intensive program for our finest young musicians, starting this Sunday,” Mr Welford said.

“A total of 77 talented music students have been selected to take part in the program, from a field of nearly 300 applicants.

“The students come from 40 state secondary schools from towns all over Queensland including Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Toowoomba, Bundaberg, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.

“The program culminates in the MOST Gala Concert which will feature performances by the MOST Symphonic Wind Ensemble, String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Big Band.

In preparation for the Gala Concert, students will participate in ensemble rehearsals, tutorials with members of The Queensland Orchestra and choral musicianship and chamber music sessions.

Mr Welford said the MOST Gala Concert was a highlight of the Education Queensland calendar.

“This event provides a rare opportunity for the public to hear so many talented young musicians perform in one concert,” he said.

Tickets to the MOST 2007 Gala Concert on Thursday 28 June are available from Qtix at www.qtix.com.au or by phoning 136 246. The cost is $5 per ticket.
