Queensland Government provides extra support for Ipswich families

Vulnerable children and their families in Ipswich now have access to an intensive support service thanks to the Queensland Government.

Minister for Communities Warren Pitt said the service was one of 10 new Referral for Active Intervention (RAI) services being rolled out statewide as part of an $8.5 million Queensland Government initiative.

Member for Ipswich Rachel Nolan officially launched the new service today.

“Mission Australia has received Queensland Government funding of $890,000 to establish this vital community service in the Ipswich area,” Mr Pitt said.

“This service targets local young children and their families who have been assessed as low risk within the child protection system but who could benefit from active intervention.

“Clients have access to a wide range of support services including information, assistance with everyday tasks such as budgeting and behaviour management, and access to an individual case manager.”

The initiative is aimed at reducing the number of local families falling into crisis and children going into the care of the Department of Child Safety.

Ms Nolan said the Referral for Active Intervention program would work with children from birth to eight years and their families.

“I am confident this service will benefit vulnerable children and their families as well as the wider Ipswich community,” she said.

“Referrals to RAI services are made by the Department of Child Safety for families identified as not needing protection, but who have high and complex needs,” Ms Nolan said.

“The early intervention program aims to protect vulnerable children, support families and ultimately to build safe, healthy and inclusive communities.”
