STATE GOVERNMENT TAKES HAT OFF TO JACARU AS BUSINESS BOOMS

The Aussie leather hat has become the trademark of Gold Coast clothing manufacturer Jacaru and with the help of the State Government the company will soon be known for its extensive range of outdoor leisurewear as well.

Minister for State Development John Mickel today announced $45,000 in funding to assist the third generation Gold Coast Aussie-style clothing and hat manufacturer launch a new range of outdoor wear.

“Jacaru has been a fixture on the Gold Coast business scene for close to 40 years and in that time it’s developed a strong international reputation for producing quality leather hats, as well as oilskin coats and other Australian-themed clothes,” Mr Mickel said.

“The company has grown from strength to strength on the back of a quality product and has recently purchased outdoor clothing brand Twenty Five Degrees South which it plans to expand.”

Jacaru’s General Manager Kevin Cummings said the funding would enable the company to engage a consultant to design and expand next season’s range.

“The funding will enable us to fast track our plans to bring in this new range and ensure we have a great product that fits with the Jacaru range,” he said.

“The outdoor clothing market is expanding all the time, particularly here in Australia where it’s still relatively easy to ‘go bush’ an hour or so’s drive from most capital cities.

“But approximately 40% of our current products are exported so we certainly see a strong international take up of our new range given that we have a strong brand in the global marketplace.”

Mr Cummings said the new range would continue to be made with wrinkle free, wash and wear cotton.

“We certainly believe our customers who like to be outdoors and enjoy the natural environment prefer us using natural fibres and leathers and that trend will continue,” he said.

The funding to Jacaru was provided under the State Government’s Queensland Industry Development Scheme.

In other funding news, $15,000 has been awarded to local entrepreneurial group Business Women Incorporated to deliver a series of seminars and workshops for business and professional women in the region.

“The group has identified that local business women are looking for professional development in human resources, marketing, finance and closing sales,” Mr Mickel said.

“These areas are crucial to ensuring business growth and success and I commend the organisation for taking a leadership role in this area.”

Business Women Incorporated will be supported with a Leadership and Management Program grant designed to channel funds into programs that develop high level management skills.
