Families escaping domestic violence in the Wide Bay-Burnett region will benefit from the opening of a new $1.98 million shelter in Bundaberg tomorrow by State Housing Minister Robert Schwarten.
Mr Schwarten said the shelter would provide short term accommodation and support for up to five families of women and children escaping domestic violence.
“Initiated by the Bundaberg and District Women’s Domestic Violence Service Inc., the project was supported and funded under the Department of Housing’s Community Housing Crisis Accommodation Program,” Mr Schwarten said.
“In addition to providing a secure environment for women and children escaping domestic and family violence, the centre will also provide life skills support, advocacy, crisis counselling, information, referral and case management to clients.”
