The Honourable Warren Pitt
BSCAT aims for a safer Bundaberg
Bundaberg will become an even safer community with the establishment of a community safety program driven by the Department of Communities and the Bundaberg City Council.
Minister for Communities Warren Pitt said the formation of a Bundaberg Building Safer Communities Action Team (BSCAT) was a significant step forward for the local community.
“Local crime prevention is a shared responsibility,” Mr Pitt said.
“BSCATs promote multi-agency coordination because they are comprised of local people who develop local solutions to local crime and safety issues.
“Locally developed solutions are frequently the best solutions, which is why BSCATs have proven so effective at creating and maintaining safe neighbourhoods.”
Issues addressed by BSCATs in other centres include alcohol management issues around licensed venues and entertainment precincts, drug use, family violence, personal and community safety, property security, vandalism and graffiti.
The commitment of Bundaberg BSCAT members was officially acknowledged today when they were presented with certificates of achievement after completing their initial training with the Department of Communities.
The Bundaberg BSCAT members are:
• Snr Sgt Erwin Hoffmann – Queensland Police Service
• Margaret Wass – Bundaberg Neighbourhood Centre
• Greg Savage – Bundaberg City Council
• Lynne Forgan – Community representative
• Maurie Wilson – Bundaberg Neighbourhood Watch
• Stan Foster – self-funded retiree
• Pamela Mazza – Department of Child Safety
• Peter Nell – Department of Tourism, Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development
• Andrew Horn – youth justice conferencing, Department of Communities.
